Road To Hana or Road To Hell?

I did a ton of research for our Hawaiian Adventure. Hours and hours. One of the most important things to do while on Maui was travel the Road To Hana. It is an approximately 60 mile stretch of road that leads to the small town of Hana but pass an amazing group of waterfalls and beaches. Or so the promoters would have you believe. It is also a huge challenge to drive with over 600 short curves and over 40 one-lane bridges.
But after all my research we dedicated a full day to this important and amazing stretch of road planning a number of photo shoots along the way and all the amazing stops. Or so I hoped.
The truth about the Road To Hana, in my opinion, is it should be renamed the Road To Hell.
They didn't lie about all the turns and bridges. It was truly awful. We did not get to stop at one waterfall. They were mostly disappointing and traffic was so bad and crazy it just wasn't worth it. The beaches were equally wasted.
We did finally make it to the Black Sand Beach. It poured rain on us for about 10 minutes there but we hung out and actually made it to the beach. The picture looks like we were there along. LOL! There were so many people around we could hardly move and that was after they charge for appointments to try and control the crowds.

I think we spent 6 hours on the Road To Hell and it was a total waste except for a very few decent pictures. So far our trip to Hawaii has been pretty awful.
However, thanks to Gretchen and Chuck we went to a bar down the sidewalk tonight and had a much better time which helped dull some of the pain from earlier today. Here was the sunset from while we were eating.

So, we have three days left to save this trip. Tomorrow morning we are doing some interesting stuff... hopefully... more to come on that. Tomorrow night is the wedding and lava. Wednesday is a couple of beach shoots including the fire shoot and Thursday is the chartered sailboat so... as they say there is always hope!
